Re: question about bowing on the bass strings...
Bows...
I forgot to mention that I too find horse hair to be a little too brittle with electrics.
What would the solution if one prefers horse hair? Less rosin? Less tension? Black horse hair bows seem even worse.
I like my tenor gamba bow for its size (23.3"), weight (I think it's about 66g but am not sure), and balance, but was wondering if a similarly sized incredibow would be preferable...
Traditional cello bows don't seem to work (for my taste at least) either.
I do want to try one of those Bach bows sometime, if I get the money to buy one (they're quite expensive).

Carlos,
That sums up why I prefer (and reccomend) incredibows on the electrics. I remember Coda Bow used to make special "electric" models. http://www.codabow.com . Inherently, electric pickups can be a bit sensitive (efficient) and exaggerate bow "talk" and the incredibows are more quiet with "bow-talk"; making them ideal for electric instruments. I remember Loga had such a Coda and leter opted for the Incredibow Cello model for his style of playing.

With acoustics, this is a different story. Traditional wooden horse hair bows actually "resonate" and you can hear the bow resonate next to your ear! That is considered part of the "overall acoustic" sound. With the acoustic, the pickups can be placed much farther from the strings due to the mechanics of the live top which is essentially a speaker. The electric (solidbody) this is not true and the pickups have to be really "at the strings" and that can be a bit "full range" where we tend to roll off unwanted talk and the incredibow helps with that.

I do understand what you mean. And wonder if Incredibow still accommodates particular requests like a bow with 23.3"/66 g...
Have you had experience with that Jonathan?

Contact Heidi at Incredibow, I believe she will work with your request.
